I was spellbound by this podcast, admiring every step of the way. My admiration comes down to something simple but very difficult: asking open-ended questions and waiting for the answer. Zayd interviews his parents in this way, and they respond honestly, asking him in turn. Att he end of the podc Zayd asks his daughter. You have to get to the end of episode 10 to hear her answer, so I won't spoil it.

I lived through those years in Chicago, while my husbnd founded and ran a free clinic with the Black Panthers, but neither I nor my kids ever had to pay the price for true activism. THe Ayers-Dohrns were the only other family I knew at my daughter's school who truly listened to and trusted their kids.
