Mention of the Day (MOTD)
Abr 18, 2024

Today's Rosenberg Mention of the Day includes a short summary on Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, who issued a stay of execution in the Rosenberg Case. He was confirmed 85 years ago this month.
When Justice Douglas issued the stay on June 17, 1953, the family of the Rosenbergs were ecstatic; but unfortunately it did not last. When Justice Douglas gave his decision, bouncing the petition to a lower court, he then left for vacation. Soon after, the Supreme Court called a special session and vacated Douglas's stay. Two days later, the Rosenbergs' executions were allowed to go forth on the 19th. Justice Douglas also faced a (failed) impeachment attempt for his vote to stay the executions.
