Mention of the Day (MOTD)
Mar 03, 2022
strangefruitmotd

This Strange Fruit MOTD comes from Pittsfield, MA where the Black Legacy Project, a national initiative to foster racial unity, will premiere on March 6.

"[Todd] Mack and his colleagues from Music in Common have been gathering musicians from different backgrounds to record present-day interpretations of songs central to the Black American experience and also to compose original songs 'relevant to the pressing calls for change of our time,' he said."

A rendition of "Strange Fruit," will be included in the performance, a song made famous by Billie Holiday. The song's author, Abel Meeropol once said, "I wrote ‘Strange Fruit’ because I hate lynching, and I hate injustice, and I hate the people who perpetuate it.'"

After the performance in Pittsfield, the show will travel to several cities across the U.S. through 2023. Get tickets and learn more here: https://www.berkshireeagle.com/news/local/black-legacy-project-premiere…

#StrangeFruitMOTD

"As an artist committed to social justice and civil liberties, I am deeply gratified to stand with the family of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, Angela Davis, and a new generation of political activists to forge an unbreakable link between the struggles of the past and of the present."  -V (formerly Eve Ensler), RFC Advisory Board Member
