In their final letter to my father and uncle, my grandparents wrote that they were comforted in the sure knowledge that others would carry on after them.
More than 65 years later, the Rosenberg Fund for Children honors that trust by offering our community’s support to the children of targeted activists. As increasingly repressive forces take aim at those fighting for economic, racial, gender, environmental and social justice, our aid is more vital than ever.
In addition to regular donations, there are two special types of gifts which provide invaluable support to the RFC. Legacy gifts or bequests help ensure that the RFC will always be here to stand with the children of resistance. By making a bequest to the RFC you can justify my grandparents’ faith in continuing progressive activism and carry forward their legacy.
A letter which accompanied a recent bequest to the RFC illustrates the significance such gifts can have for donors: “[my friend] passed away content with the thought that her savings would help make a difference – the legacy she desired most. Her donation is a reminder to all of us that we are never fully aware of our impact on others.”
As the year draws to a close, if you are 70 ½ or older, you’re required to begin withdrawing a minimum distribution from your retirement account(s). To avoid paying the delayed income tax, simply contact the custodian of your account and request your RMD be sent as a direct donation to the RFC.
Please take the time now to add the RFC as a beneficiary of your estate or to designate the RFC as the recipient of your RMD. If you need more information you can call me at (413) 529-0063 or email exdir@rfc.org, and I will be happy to assist you.
