FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For information contact
Rosenberg Family Members React to Decision to Release Grand Jury Testimony (Statement of Robert, Michael, Jennifer, Rachel, Ivy, Greg, Ellen and Ann Meeropol, Tomas Hunt, and Thomas Ambrose)
July 21, 2008- We, the sons of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, and our families, applaud the Department of Justice’s June 2008 decision to release the Grand Jury testimony of 35 of the 45 witnesses called before that body in 1950, leading to the Rosenbergs’ indictment. But we do not believe this release goes far enough. Since we launched the effort to reopen the Rosenberg Case in 1973, we have maintained that the public and family members deserve every bit of information any government agency holds about the case. Therefore we urge the Federal District Court Southern District of New York to order the release of the testimony of the remaining 10 witnesses, particularly the statements made to the Grand Jury by Ethel Rosenberg’s brother, David Greenglass. David Greenglass has given extensive interviews about his role in the Rosenberg case and has, therefore, waived any claim to privacy he might make. Withholding the testimony of this key prosecution witness will deprive the public of potentially critical information about a matter of great national interest. After 58 years, it is past time to lift this unnecessary veil of secrecy. ### For information or interviews contact Amber Black, Rosenberg Fund for Children:
