Fact Sheet
<PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION>

Participant in cultural arts groupThe RFC was founded in 1990 by Robert Meeropol, son of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (executed in 1953 for conspiracy to commit espionage). The fund provides for the educational and emotional needs of children whose parents have been targeted as a result of progressive activities, as well as for youth who have been targeted due to their own progressive activities.*

Orphaned at 6, when his parents were executed, Meeropol started the RFC to help children who are experiencing the kind of nightmare he and his brother experienced as children. Sustained by a loving and culturally rich relationship with his adoptive parents whose name he bears, Meeropol knows from personal experience that activities the RFC supports can be a safe harbor for a child in traumatic and unstable circumstances.

(* The RFC considers “targeted” to describe someone who has: lost a job; suffered physical or mental injury or disability; been harassed or discriminated against; been imprisoned; or died. The RFC defines “progressive activities” as actions taken to further the beliefs that: 1) All people have equal worth; 2) People are more important than profits; 3) World peace is a necessity; 4) Society must function within ecologically sustainable limits.)
